A $95 billion package was passed by the House on Saturday, aimed at providing military aid to Ukraine and Israel, replenishing U.S. weapons systems, and offering humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. The Senate is expected to pass the package in the coming week, with President Joe Biden committed to signing it promptly upon receipt.
The breakdown of the spending includes approximately $61 billion allocated for Ukraine and restocking U.S. weapons supplies. Of this amount, $13.8 billion is designated for Ukraine to purchase weapons, while over $9 billion will be provided as economic assistance in the form of forgivable loans.
Furthermore, around $26 billion is earmarked for supporting Israel and delivering humanitarian relief to individuals in Gaza. Notably, $4 billion will be dedicated to replenishing Israel's missile defense systems, with over $9 billion allocated for humanitarian aid in Gaza amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Additionally, approximately $8 billion will be directed towards assisting U.S. allies in the Indo-Pacific region and countering China. Of this sum, more than $3.3 billion will be utilized for submarine infrastructure and development, while an extra $1.9 billion will be used to replenish U.S. weapons provided to Taiwan and other regional allies.
