Still Crazy, a comedy about a seventies rock band called Strange Fruit, is one of many in Nighy's long career which takes in both film and stage. His stand-out movies include Love Actually - in which he played ageing pop star Billy Mack- plus favourites such as Underworld, Pirates of the Caribbean, Valkyrie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
After La Frenais introduces this September 28's event, audiences will watch Still Crazy and then presenter Charlie Charlton will chat to Bill about his remarkable career, with the audience also invited to ask questions.
Christine Lee, the theatre's general manager, said: “It’s a wonderful honour to partner with the Whitley Bay Film Festival once again and to celebrate our fourth year by welcoming Bill to the stage. North Shields has such a thriving arts and culture scene with a real connection to the community so it’s a great opportunity to showcase this unique event to local residents."
