Bill Gates has spent years warning that the biggest threats to humanity don’t always arrive with a warning siren. In 2015, it was a pandemic. Now, the Microsoft co-founder is pointing at artificial intelligence, saying the technology could give people with malicious intentions the ability to cause destruction on a scale never seen before.
“AI is certainly powerful enough to drive events that, you know, cause a billion deaths,” Gates said in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” excerpts of which were released Sept. 25 ahead of the interview’s Sept. 27 broadcast.
