Bill Gates has lifted the lid on his divorce from Melinda, saying he is still 'grieving' over the breakdown of their 27-year marriage.
The couple, who share three children, announced the divorce back in May 2021 after 27 years of marriage - shocking the world.
Bill, 65, is currently the globe's fourth-richest man, according to Forbes, and following his divorce, the Microsoft founder and his ex-wife amicably split their huge wealth.
Opening up about their relationship post-split, Bill admitted that she still considers Melinda as a 'friend' - even if she doesn't.
"I would say that. In an interview she chose not to use that word, but I'll use it. We have a, you know, super important, complex, close relationship where we've chosen to work together. And I'm very happy that we get to work together.
"I'm also grieving the same way she is. Yes. You know, we grew up together. When I got married, yeah, Microsoft was a big deal. But I was a young 38-year-old and she was a mature 28-year old, and over those next few years, in terms of what we learnt together, what went well, what didn't go well… I mean, that's more than half my adult life."
The businessman went on to insist that the divorce settlement, at a time when his wealth was estimated to be around $130billion, was 'fair' on both their parts.
Bill and Melinda share three children, Jennifer, 26, Rory, 22, and Phoebe, 19, as well as a beloved dog.
Following the news of their split last year, Bill confirmed that his ex-wife got to keep their dog in the divorce.
At the time, Bill said: "She got the dog. She just killed me with that. No, I'm kidding. The world should know how mistreated I was. No, I'm kidding. We weren't mean to each other."
Bill and Melinda's divorce was finalised privately in Washington in August.
Back in March, Melinda insisted that she and Bill are 'not friends' but are 'friendly' and work together.
It came amid reports that Bill had been unfaithful in their 27-year marriage.
The billionaire has never confirmed whether the speculation is true or not.
