New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick heaped praise on rookie wide receiver Kayshon Boutte on Friday.
Boutte has been having a strong week, as the wide receiver position has been hit with injuries. He could potentially have a larger role on the roster moving forward to help fill the void.
The former LSU star has not seen the field since Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the Patriots may need some of the younger wideouts to step up with injuries at the position. We have already seen Demario Douglas play at a high level, and now, it may be Boutte’s turn to shine.
Belichick elaborated on his progress, as transcribed by NESN.com’s Zack Cox.
“I think this has probably been his best week,” Belichick said Friday morning.” … Performance, consistency, assignments, production. Practice is practice, but there are opportunities out there for everybody. You either take advantage of them or don’t take advantage of them.”
Boutte’s route-running and explosiveness could be important for a Patriots team that is lacking production at the wide receiver spot.
Kendrick Bourne tore his ACL last Sunday and is out for the season. DeVante Parker is currently battling his way back from a head injury. This could be an opportunity for the rookie to really make an impact and make a case to be in the wide receiver rotation permanently.
