New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was not impressed by Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams in the preseason. He expanded on his thoughts during a recent appearance on “Inside the NFL.”
Williams went 10-of-20 for 170 yards passing during his preseason run. He threw for no touchdowns, no interceptions and finished with a passer rating of 79.2. He was able to show off his running ability with 20 yards on the ground and a touchdown to show for it.
Nevertheless, that was not enough for Belichick, who gave a harsh review of the USC product.
“Well, he wasn’t accurate. He was 10-for-20,” said Belichick. “…There were a couple of highlight plays, but they weren’t that good.”

It remains to be seen how Williams’ game will translate to the NFL. It’s also fair to say that Belichick’s evaluation of quarterbacks in recent memory has been spotty.
Regardless, Williams’ journey through the NFL will be one to watch, as he was one of the most electrifying playmakers in college football.
