Bikram Singh Majithia to get 24X7 security in Patiala prison, better facilities, court told

MOHALI: Former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who is jailed in Patiala prison in a drugs case, will now get better facilities and round-the-clock security cover in the high-security prison, an official informed a court here on Friday.

In a file replied to the court on Majithia’s petition which claimed that his prison cell was not fit for humans, jail authorities said all discrepancies had been removed. However, the court extended Majithia’s judicial custody to April 19. The court reserved its orders on the application filed by Majithia for April 12.

Jail authorities claimed that the concerns of insecure atmosphere and poor living conditions had been addressed and a favourable atmosphere had been provided to the SAD leader. Majithia’s counsels H S Dhanoa, Arshdeep Singh Kler and D S Sobti said they had improved facilities in jail, but they will keep an eye on all happenings.

They said Majithia had been denied basic human needs by his political adversaries in the government only with the view of humiliating him and torturing him.

Jail superintendent Sucha Singh Patiala, while appearing in person, claimed that round-the-clock security arrangements had been made. Jails function as per parameters laid down in the Jail Manual, which are the rules and regulations of the jail, he submitted.

He submitted that the perception of threat to the accused had been factored in making security arrangements. The deponent is fully conscious of his responsibility of ensuring the security of all inmates of the jail, including the accused, he said. The deponent has personally made security arrangements, added his reply.
