Biker and dog walker killed after collision on A52

The inquests into the death of a pedestrian and a motorcyclist who were both involved in a serious crash have been opened. Jeanette Lord, 56, and Conleth Grant, 57, both died following a crash which took place on the A52 bypass near Ashbourne between the Derby Road and Clifton Road roundabouts on Saturday, March 26.

Ms Lord, of Duncan Drive, Ashbourne, had been walking her dog, Bramble when the crash occurred. Police said both Ms Lord and her dog were pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Grant, who lived in Nottinghamshire, passed away after being taken to hospital, Derbyshire Live reports.

At the short inquest hearing at Derby Coroner's Court, Assistant Coroner Louise Pinder confirmed that a postmortem examination had been carried out but a medical cause of death was not able to be confirmed due to the pathologist awaiting test results. It was confirmed that Ms Lord, a teaching assistant originally born in Leicestershire, was formally identified by her partner, Damien Banks.

Police also said that Mr Grant, of Bleasby Road, Nottinghamshire, had sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he later died. A statement was read at the inquest opening which said Mr Grant had died at Queen's Medical Centre.

It was confirmed that a postmortem examination had been carried out and stated that the provisional medical cause of death was an extensive traumatic head injury. It was confirmed that Mr Grant, a law firm manager, was formally identified by his wife, Rosie.

The assistant coroner adjourned both hearings till a later date to allow evidence to be gathered and for police to finish their investigation into the incident. The incident resulted in the busy carriageways of the A52 Ashbourne bypass being closed for around six hours after police were first called to the scene at around 3pm on Saturday, March 26.
