Bihar: Policemen throw parts of body in canal in Muzaffarpur, suspended

By

PATNA: One police driver was suspended with immediate effect, while two home-guards were closed from duty (contract cancelled) in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar after a video of the three throwing some parts of a body into the canal (Nahar) from a bridge went viral on Sunday.

The body was said to be of an old man who was crushed to death by some over-speeding vehicle on Sunday early morning. However, the deceased has not been identified yet.

The incident took place at Fakuli Outpost in the district. The body of the elderly man was lying on the highway in a mutilated condition. A crowd of local people gathered at the spot. The police immediately reached the spot and threw the body parts into the canal from over the bridge with the help of wooden sticks. Body parts were first kept on railing, and then pushed by the sticks. Someone made a video of the incident. Within a short span of time the video went viral on social media. After this, the police hurriedly took out some parts of the body from the canal and sent it to SKMCH for postmortem.

Muzaffarpur SSP, Rakesh Kumar said, “action has been taken against the guilty police and home-guard personnel. Departmental proceedings will be conducted against them. The body was in mutilated condition. The upper part has been kept at SKMCH for identification. Some parts of his legs were stuck to the ground which the police threw into the canal. But, it was a wrong act. They should have kept all the parts in a bag."
