PATNA: A 50-year-old man died while his son sustained burn injuries when highly explosive firecrackers they were allegedly making at a house went off in the densely populated area of Bathua Bazar under Phulwaria police station area in Gopalganj district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Aleem Mian. According to police, his body was blown to pieces after the blast. The police collected the pieces of his body and sent to Sadar Hospital for the postmortem.
The incident took place around 10.50am when Aleem and his son Akhtar Mian (22) were allegedly making firecrackers at their home.
The intensity of the explosion was so high that the entire roof of the house was reduced to rubble.
Hathua SDPO Naresh Kumar told TOI that the members of bomb disposal and detection squad (BDDS) of Bihar’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and forensic science laboratory will investigate the incident.
“The family members of the deceased claimed that the incident took place following a cylinder blast in their house. However, prima facie it appears that the duo were illegally making some explosive materials on the second floor of the house due to which the explosion took place,” he said.
“After the explosion, the entire floor of the house was destroyed. The injured was admitted to a hospital in Gorakhpur where his condition remained critical. At the time of the incident, only four persons were in the house. Aleem and Akhtar were on the second floor while the deceased’s wife and his daughter were on the ground floor,” Naresh said.
“During the search of the house, no explosive item was found. The matter will be clear after the investigation of FSL and BDDS teams,” the SDPO added.
