Bihar doctor gets gold medal, says will return to state to provide cardiac care

PATNA: Son of soil, Dr Rahul Bhushan has been awarded gold medal for topping Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi (formerly IP University), in Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery in super speciality exam.

The award ceremony was held at Dr B R Ambedkar Auditorium in New Delhi and medal was awarded by Union health minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on July 30 at the annual foundation day of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi.

Dr Rahul had also brought laurels to the state previously by topping in the university in his MS exams in 2017. Born and brought up in Patna, he completed 12 years of schooling at St Michael's High School, following which he moved out to pursue higher education.

Son of Dean, Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU) and former superintendent of Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, Dr Rahul said he had an inclination towards medical profession from early education days.

"I have a strong desire to return to Bihar and serve here as there is a dearth of good cardiac surgery centres in the state, resulting in massive exodus of patients to Delhi and other states," he said.
