Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's convoy attacked, stones pelted in Patna, 11 arrested

PATNA: Window panes of some vehicles of chief minister Nitish Kumar’s cavalcade were badly damaged after stones were hurled at the cavalcade near Sohgi More under Gaurichak police station of Patna district on Sunday evening.

Nitish Kumar was not present in the cavalcade, which was on the way to Gaya for his scheduled visit to the holy town on Monday.

Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh said altogether four vehicles of the CM’s cavalcade were attacked by anti-social elements at around 5pm near Sohgi More.

He said so far 11 people have been arrested on the charges of pelting stones and damaging the vehicles of the CM’s cavalcade. Necessary steps were being taken to identify more anti-social elements and arrest them, he said.

Police said the incident occurred when the CM’s cavalcade was on the way to Gaya through the Patna-Gaya national highways via Dhanarua and Gaurichak.

When the cavalcade reached near Sohgi More, the residents of Sohgi village who had blocked the main highway over the death of a 20-year old youth Sunny Kumar, pelted stones on the cavalcade damaging window panes of some vehicles.

Soon after hearing about the incident, Patna DM Chandrasekhar Singh and the SSP rushed to the spot and ran away the locals who had blocked the highway. Altogether 11 persons were arrested after being identified in the CCTV camera.

Taking the matter seriously, Patna DM on Sunday constituted a two-member team comprising the ADM (Law & Order) and DySP (headquarters), to inquire into the incident.

The inquiry team has been asked to submit its report within 24 hours, the DM said adding the tough actions would be taken against the officers found negligent in their duty.
