Big Sunderland end of season survey after League One play-off triumph

Finally after so many years of pain, Sunderland fans were able to celebrate. Over 46,000 fans took over Wembley to see the Black Cats end their play-off curse and see the Wearsiders lift a trophy at the home of English football.

Last season's Papa John's Trophy win was played out behind closed doors and the play-off win was the first time fans have seen their side win at Wembley since their FA Cup triumph in 1973. Sunderland will play Championship football once more and fans will be hoping next season is more successful than their previous stint in the second tier.

This season has not been without its problems. A poor run of form after the turn of the year saw Sunderland fall away from the automatic promotion places and a new ownership revelation would come to light.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus would later apologise to fans that had felt misled by his majority shareholder comments but the ownership problems look set to rumble on into next year. There has been speculation suggesting Charlie Methven and Stewart Donald are in talks to sell their shares after obtaining promotion.
