Big plays give Colts’ offense a spark in first half vs. Bears

The Indianapolis Colts’ offense was sparked in the first half by three explosive plays–two through the air and another in the run game.

As has become the norm early on this season, Anthony Richardson was able to connect with Alec Pierce for what ended up being a 44-yard gain.

This is the third completion of at least 40 yards for Pierce this season. Pierce entered Week 3 with the third-most receiving yards in football. The Colts eventually found themselves in a goal-to-go situation following this completion but the drive ended in an interception from Anthony Richardson.

Following an interception by Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones, the Colts offense had the ball back. On the second play of the drive, Richardson connected with tight end Kylen Granson for 40 yards. Then, on the very next play, Jonathan Taylor ran it in from 29 yards out.

At halftime, the Colts have 167 total yards on offense, and 113 of those yards have come from these three plays.

As we’ve seen through the first two games, the Colts’ offense certainly possesses the ability to generate big plays, but where they’ve struggled–including today–is sustaining drives, whether that be through the run game or on short to intermediate passing plays.
