Lucknow: Sanjay Prasad was on Wednesday given additional charge of Home Department. Awanish Awasthi, a 1987 batch IAS officer, retired from the Additional Chief Secretary Home today after 37 years of service.

Sanjay Prasad is a 1995 batch IAS officer and is currently posted as Principal Secretary. Sanjay Prasad is considered close to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Earlier there were speculations that Awanish Awasthi may get an extension.

IAS Sanjay Prasad is originally from Bihar but he got the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
Born on 23 May 1971, Sanjay Prasad had his early education in Bihar. He holds a first class post graduation degree in Geography. Prasad qualified the Civil Services Examination in 1995.
Sanjay Prasad, who has worked at various places and posts in UP, was also on deputation to the Center. He was posted as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Technology. Later he worked as Joint Secretary Defense Production in the Ministry of Defense. After about three and a half years of central deputation, Prasad returned to the home cadre UP in 2019 where he was posted as Secretary, Infrastructure and Industrial Development.
