Big Mike shattered the hearts of cheesecake lovers last month when it was announced that the business was up for sale. Owner Mike Jones revealed that one shop had closed and he would be selling the company, along with his original store in Carlton.
Providing cakes for the two shops had not worked out. However, since making the announcement, he has had a change of heart, much to the delight of fans of Big Mike's Artisan Cheesecakes, or at least those living near the shop in Carlton Hill.
He is no longer selling the business and the Carlton shop, which opened in November 2020, will continue to trade as normal. The Beeston shop, however, will remain closed.

Mike said: "Since we made the announcement last week that we would be putting Big Mike’s on the market we have had a lot of interest which has been really positive. Putting the business up for sale was not something we wanted to do but felt it was something we should explore.
"Laying out all the positives and the things that we need to work on within the business to prospective buyers has been very useful to us and actually made us reassess our situation. For the last two years we’ve put everything into this business and we can’t see ourselves not doing that moving forward. However, the growth to Beeston has been more than we can manage so we have decided not to sell and to keep our Carlton store but close the Beeston store."
The Beeston shop, in High Road, will be sold off as a ready-to-go food business such as a sandwich shop or juice bar. Mike added: "This is a great opportunity for someone looking to start a business which has unfortunately not worked for us due to the other costs that are involved in providing cake to two stores."
Fans responding to the news commented: "Fantastic news that Carlton is staying open" and "I think you’ve made the right decision. You’ve got a great little business. Small is good. Steady/slow growth is utterly fine. Running a business is hard. All businesses face challenges… and it is that that makes them STRONGER and better. You have worked too hard to let a truly wonderful business go!"
