A six-year-old girl with ‘a heart of gold’ from Dalvait has donated nine inches of her hair to a charity which makes children’s wigs for cancer patients.
Lucy Morrison has just started primary two and has donated a large chunk of her hair to charity, Little Princess.
The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years of age, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
The Balloch Primary pupil decided she wanted to donate her hair after overhearing her mother, Jennie Morrison, discussing the charity, which made little Lucy determined to grow her hair longer to donate a sizable amount.
However, proud dad, Stevie Morrison, admits that they weren’t sure how serious Lucy was at first.
He said: “I never knew there was such a thing, but she came home one day and told me about it.
“We were taken quite aback when she first said it because she first said it before the summer holidays, and we wanted to make sure that it was what she really wanted to do, so we let her think about it through the summer holidays.
“You know what six-year-olds are like, they want to do everything, but she kept saying that she wanted to donate it.
“Since getting her haircut, Lucy is loving her new hair and is really pleased she has been able to help other children who have lost their own hair.
“We are so proud of her. Everybody that hears about her always talks about how she has a heart of gold and how caring she is.”
