Big dog found alone on the streets just wants a home for Christmas

A dog who has spent nearly half his life in kennels is desperate to find a home after being found as a stray.

Floki is around one year and eight months old, and has spent 270 days in kennels at Manchester Dogs Home . If he doesn’t find a home by Valentine’s Day, he’ll have spent just as long in kennels as he has out of them.

Since he was found on the streets, the rescue centre, in Harpurhey, has little information about his past - but the team has spent the last eight months getting to know him very well.

The brindle pooch is an extra large cross breed, likely to have some sort of bull breed in him, with bat-like ears that look like he’s on alert, and the sweetest face.

A spokesperson for Manchester Dogs Home said: “Floki is a very loving playful boy that needs someone who has had experience with larger dogs and is committed to continuing with his training.”

The centre says that Floki - named after a trickster Viking - needs someone who can ‘set rules and boundaries’. As such, Floki needs an adult only home with no other pets and no small visitors, due to his size. The young dog had been rehomed from the centre twice, but was returned due to his size and strength. He's hoping it will be third time lucky.

Also still looking for a home is Zeus, who arrived at Manchester Dogs’ Home in August 2021, and was ‘very scared’ when he was first rescued by the team. Spritely Staffy, Oscar, is another long stayer, having spent 452 days at the centre.

We have had some good news, though, after long-term resident Diesel, who had been with the charity for more than a year was rehomed this autumn. Diesel has now settled into his new life down south, enjoying long daily walks in parkland, paddling in lakes and generally making himself at home.

You can find all of the dogs awaiting their forever homes at Manchester Dogs Home here.
