Big Data London: When is the event and who is speaking?

Big Data London, which has been billed as the UK’s leading data and analytics event, begins this week.

More than 170 exhibitors and over 400 expert speakers will be in attendance, including representatives from Microsoft, Google, JP Morgan Chase, the Ministry of Defence and the Bank of England.

Although it is largely aimed at businesses, the conference boasts a number of seminars that could appeal to the general public. The headline speaker is astronaut Tim Peake, who made history as the first Brit to travel to the International Space Station.

For petrolheads, British automotive company McLaren will discuss how it wins trophies by analysing the data produced by its F1 cars, which pack 300 onboard sensors.

Meanwhile, parents can find out how the Department for Education is tracking truant children using a new analysis process at schools and local authorities.

To capitalise on the hype around artificial intelligence this year, Microsoft will be a major presence at Big Data London, where it will discuss its recently launched data analytics service, called Fabric. The programme comes integrated with CoPilot AI, the natural language AI Microsoft developed with ChatGPT creator OpenAI.

When is Big Data London?

Big Data London will take place at the Olympia London exhibition centre in West Kensington on Wednesday September 20 from 9am to 6pm and Thursday September 21 from 9am to 5.30pm.

Is Big Data London free?

Yes, Big Data London is free to visitors. There is also no charge to register for seminars but attendance is on a first come, first served basis, and many of the most popular sessions may be full by now.

Big Data London speakers

Big Data London has a lineup of more than 300 speakers, who will dish out expert technical and business-led advice at seminars held across 15 auditoria inside Olympia London.

This year’s event will be running two keynote theatres in tandem at opposing ends of the hall. Tim Peake’s closing keynote session will take place at 4.40pm on Thursday September 21 in the Y-Axis keynote theatre.

Big Data London’s featured speakers include Inna Weiber, senior engineering manager at Google, Abel Aboh, data management lead at the Bank of England, ITV’s chief data strategist, Darren Wood, and Michelle Conway, lead data scientist at Lloyds Bank.

How many people attend Big Data London?

Last year’s event attracted an estimated 10,000 people.

What is the dress code?

There is no dress code for Big Data London. But, judging by the business-oriented nature of the event, we’d assume that smart casual attire will be the de facto uniform for attenders.
