'Big cat' spotted by Westcountry driver in field near Bristol

A man said he "100 per cent" saw a big cat running through a field while driving just an hour outside Bristol. Jason Scriven, 30, was shocked upon seeing a "huge black object" sprinting along hedgerows in the Forest of Dean on Thursday morning (June 1).

Jason, from Tetbury, insisted it was a big cat he saw he saw while driving from Whitecroft towards Lydney at around 10.50am. After pulling over to try an grab a photo, the 30-year-old said he called police to report the sighting, noting the shape had a "very distinctive long tail".

The vehicle breakdown and accident recovery driver was unable to snap a picture of the creature. He told GloucestershireLive it was "gone within seconds", but added it was a big at "without a shadow of a doubt".

He said: "I even pulled over in the road to try and get some pics but it was gone so within seconds. I phoned the police because I didn’t know if it’s something that would need reporting."

Jason said he he had seen big cats as a child in Minchinhampton, when he was around 12 or 13. Speaking of the encounter he said: "We both attempted to scare it and run towards it but it turned towards us so we pegged it home."

He added: "One hundred per cent I do believe big cats are out there, and today just confirmed it even more so I’ve never seen it so clearly, and it’s near where they’ve been spotted before.

"Without a shadow of a doubt it was the big cat. The black one.

"I usually carry my drone with me, but today I didn’t. Could’ve got some good myth-busting footage."
