Big Brother is returning to television next year but viewers are urging producers to go back to its gritty roots.
ITV2 gave viewers a brief glimpse at the new series of Big Brother on Monday. Perched neatly in the ads between the Love Island final, the British public lost their minds and stormed Twitter with celebration.
The likes of Love Island and The Circle never managed to scratch the itch Big Brother left with its history of notorious and legendary moments. During its two-decade run on multiple terrestrial channels, viewers watched the social experiment churn out some of the best British television that has ever been aired.

Known for its controversy, the show has come under fire for its vulgarity, crass and insane moments. Even British Prime Minister Gordon Brown had to denounce the show given the severity of its content at one point but Big Brother has still lived on in adoration by fans who just can't get enough.
Though not much is known about the new series arriving on ITV2 in 2023, viewers are begging the show to go back to its gritty roots. The same roots that birthed memorable moments including shocking bust-ups and the infamous "David's dead".
Makosi thinks she's pregnant - Big Brother 6
Once in a while, the housemates are gifted alcohol by Big Brother and, whilst rare, they make the most of it. Makosi Musambasi and eventual winner Anthony Hutton enjoyed their boozy night a little too much as a moment on the pool left Makosi thinking she had conceived a child.
After getting close and heated in the hot tub the night before - in front of the other housemates - Makosi enters the diary room asking big Brother for a pregnancy test. Despite less than 24 hours passing, she believed Anthony had gotten her pregnant and she was already aware of the child.
Eventually realising she wasn't pregnant, the claims caused a rift between her and her former baby daddy.
Kinga - Big Brother 6
Another boozy night in the Big Brother house revolved around Anthony, Craig Coates and Kinga Karolczak. They were the last to go to bed and enjoyed each other's company as they polished off the last of the alcohol.
Kinga then took an empty win bottle into the garden and, well, you know the rest. A market researcher from Poland, Kinga finished 4th and was in a relationship with fellow housemate Kemal Shahin for about six months after the show.
In recent years, she has ditched her iconic blonde Big Brother look and gone for brunette locks instead.
According to reports, she has lost over three stone and has been busy focusing on her YouTube channel called The Kinga Show, the Daily Star reports.
Stu and Michelle - Big Brother 5
Big Brother has eyes quite literally in every corner of the house. There is nowhere - toilet excluded - that his gaze doesn't reach. So, when Stuart Wilson and Michelle Bass pitched a tent of sorts from the dining table and cloths, Big Brother could do nothing about it.
Starting a romance in the house, the couple sat under the table for over 30 minutes. Their secret get-together caused an outage with viewers at the time.
Roxanne Pallet accuses Ryan Thomas of punching her - Celebrity Big Brother 22
During a playful back and forth, Ryan Thomas jabbed Roxanne Pallet several times in the arm. After he skipped off, Roxanne told her housemates his behaviour was vicious and painful. A smear campaign followed where she claimed "this is why women don't come forward," suggesting she was a victim of abuse.
The other housemates believed Roxanne's claims and slowly separated from the Emmerdale actor. Big Brother had to step in and suggest Ryan was in the clear after several housemates quizzed them on what really happened. During a live eviction, the public could be heard cheering "Get Roxanne out" which eventually led Ryan to break down in tears, confirming to him he did nothing wrong.
Fight Night - Big Brother 5
Fooling the housemates into believing a fake eviction occurred just days before, Big Brother kept Emma Greenwood and Michelle Bass a secret. The pair would be shown live footage of the house after their exit and they didn't like what they saw.
Just before returning to the house, Big Brother offered everyone copious amounts of alcohol which only amped up emotions. As soon as they burst through the door, Victor Ebuwa made his feelings clear he wasn't happy they were both back.
All hell soon broke loose as the returning housemates and Victor clashed in a brawl so massive security had to step in. The furniture, walls, and outdoor decor had been smashed or ruined along with beds and tables flipped. During the fight, both parties threw food, trays and dishes at each other, leading to fans and Big Brother calling the episode "Fight night."
David's dead - Celebrity Big Brother 17
Tiffany Pollard showed a softer side when she thought her fellow housemate had died. David Guest joined the 2016 series where viewers watched him struggle with his health.
Though not at the stage of dying, fellow housemate Angie Bowie received news her ex-husband, David Bowie, was. After confiding in her about her ex-husband's death, Tiffany became hysterical as she thought it was David Guest who died.
What followed was a legendary kick-off thathas gone down in reality television history. The house erupted in mass confusion as Tiffany wept around the garden declaring "David's dead", panicking the other housemates.
Once everyone realised the miscommunication, a fallout continued for several days.
Jade Goody versus Shilpa Shetty - Celebrity Big Brother 5
Jade Goody was a fan favourite on her original series so much so she was invited back for the celebrity edition. It was here she butted heads with Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.
Throughout the series, Jade made several harsh and racist comments toward the actress which went on to cause havoc in the outside world. Shilpa's fans rallied around her and condemned the show for allowing such crass and bully-like behaviour.
Prime Minister at the time Gordon Brown had to issue a public statement against the show due to the severity and uproar Jade's comments caused. Jade's career took a nosedive until she was offered a place on the Indian version of the show hosted by Shilpa.
It was here cameras caught her reaction as she discovered she had cancer.
