Biden pays respect to Queen Elizabeth II ahead of funeral

President Joe Biden on Sunday paid his respects to Queen Elizabeth II by visiting her coffin at Westminster Hall in London.

Biden was joined by first lady Jill Biden, and signed a book of condolences for the queen, who died Sept. 8 at age 96.

The president said afterward that Queen Elizabeth reminded him of his mother, according to The Washington Post, which reports that Biden referenced “the way she had that look, like, ‘are you okay?’”

He also called it “an honor” to meet the queen, whose death ended her record-setting 70-year-old monarchy.

Biden is one of about 2,000 people expected to attend a funeral service Monday at nearby Westminster Abbey.
