President Joe Biden had a small cancerous skin lesion removed during a Feb. 16 checkup but does not require further treatment, the White House said Friday.
The lesion was found to be basal cell carcinoma after a biopsy, according to a letter from the White House physician, Kevin O’Connor.
The letter, dated Friday, said “all cancerous tissue was successfully removed.” It did not say when the biopsy result was returned.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer and is highly treatable, typically through the removal of cancerous tissue.
“The site of the biopsy has healed nicely and the president will continue dermatological surveillance as part of his ongoing comprehensive healthcare,” O’Connor wrote in his Friday letter.
Biden, 80, is the oldest serving president in U.S. history. He has said he plans to run for reelection in 2024, despite concerns some voters have about his age.
