Biden blames Congress for NYC migrant crisis, schools suffer

New York City Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli criticizes Mayor Eric Adams' blame on the Biden administration.

New York City Council Minority Leader, Joe Borelli, has expressed concern over the current situation in New York City regarding the influx of migrants and the lack of proper support from the Biden administration. Borelli highlighted the contradictions within the city's sanctuary status and the blame placed on the Biden administration by Mayor Eric Adams.

Borelli acknowledges that both Adams and Biden share some responsibility for the issue at hand. However, he insists that it ultimately falls on President Biden to address and solve the problem. Borelli insists that Biden has the authority and ability to restore the funding cuts made during the Trump administration, which have worsened the situation.

Although Borelli acknowledges Mayor Adams' recent change in attitude towards the issue, he maintains that the primary responsibility lies with President Biden. Borelli is clear in holding Biden accountable, mentioning the importance of the upcoming elections as a means to address the issue on a larger scale.

In response to Biden's claim that Congress needs to pass new laws, Borelli points out that the House has already passed legislation on the matter. Borelli urges Senator Chuck Schumer, as the representative of New York state, to take responsibility and work towards negotiating a resolution.

Borelli also raises concerns about the impact on local students. He questions the decision to prioritize housing migrants over the needs of disadvantaged students who have been displaced from their own schools. Borelli believes that in any other time, these students would be given priority, but unfortunately, that is not currently the case.

Additionally, Borelli raises concerns about the lack of contingency plans in the face of upcoming winter storms. He questions the suitability of housing individuals in tents on floodplains, particularly as the weather worsens. Borelli emphasizes the need for a better response and proper planning from the city's administration.

Despite previously voicing this concern, Borelli claims that his questions have not received adequate answers. He maintains that it is unacceptable to simply eliminate large high schools as evacuation centers whenever the weather becomes inclement.

Overall, Borelli highlights the urgent need for President Biden and the city's administration to address the migrant issue in a more effective and responsible manner. He stresses the impact on the city's resources and the wellbeing of its residents, particularly the disadvantaged students who are being negatively affected by the current situation.
