The Biden administration is taking action in response to the recent college protests related to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona sent a letter to college and university presidents condemning incidents of antisemitism on campus and offering support resources.
President Joe Biden also addressed the issue, emphasizing the importance of peaceful protests without causing chaos. Cardona expressed concern over the rise in antisemitic incidents targeting Jewish students on some campuses, including physical assaults, harassment, and hateful statements.
Reports have included instances of students being told to 'go back to Poland,' verbal abuse, and the discovery of swastikas on dorm room doors. Cardona assured higher education leaders of the Department of Education's readiness to provide resources, training, and technical assistance.
He shared links to federal campus safety resources from agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Justice. The administration is committed to addressing antisemitism and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students on college campuses.
