Police have launched a bid to trace an unknown figure spotted on CCTV as the search for a missing Ayrshire man passes the two-week mark.
Andrew Linton vanished from his home in the Corsehill area of Kilwinning on Wednesday, February 22 at around 5.25am.
Officers investigating the 43-year-old's disappearance are keen to speak to anyone who may have spotted a man walking on Lochlibo Road at its junction with Cairnmount Road in Irvine at around 6.25am on the day Andrew vanished.
Cops say that while the figure on the CCTV matches Andrew's description and has a similar walk they can't be sure that it's the missing man.
Sergeant Martin Fraser said: “As part of our enquires, we have been gathering and viewing a large amount of CCTV footage from in and around the Kilwinning and Irvine areas to establish where Andrew went after he left his home in the Corsehill area of Kilwinning around 5.25am that morning.
“The person in the left of the CCTV image is quite a distance away, so although the man matches Andrew’s description and has a similar walk, we can’t be certain it is him. Therefore, I would ask any drivers or anyone in this area around 6.25am that morning and remember seeing him, to get in touch. If it’s not Andrew and you are the man in the image, please contact us.”
Andrew is described as white, around 5ft 6in in height and of stocky build. He was last seen wearing a blue polo shirt, a light-coloured beanie hat, dark blue cargo trousers and black boots. He may have been wearing a grey hooded jumper and carrying a red and grey ‘Karrimor’ rucksack.
Anyone with any information that may assist trace Andrew, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should contact officers through 101 quoting reference number 0514 of 22 February.”
The appeal comes after Andrew's wife made an emotional plea for him to return home.
Mr Linton’s wife Alison said: “Andrew is a family man, married with four grown stepsons and a granddaughter Myla, age three.
“This is totally out of character for Andrew to worry his family like this. Andrew is a happy family man, he does not miss his work at North Ayrshire Council. He has family holidays and days out planned for the future and over the next few weeks.
“Andrew is always happy to help anyone where he can and is well liked in the community. He spends most of his spare time as a handyman making pelmets in his man cave and he likes to watch the football with his boys in there.
“All family and friends are worried sick, we love and miss Andrew and just want him home and to be safe.
“Please come home Andrew. I love you and need you home, you are my life and Myla moo needs her papa.”
