Bhubaneswar businessman held for assaulting woman doctor

BHUBANESWAR: Laxmisagar police here on Monday arrested a businessman for allegedly assaulting a woman doctor on Sunday night. The accused was identified as Biswajit Swain.

In her complaint, Hina Gupta alleged that she along with her mother was returning home in their car around 10 pm when they found another car blocking the road.

"I blew my horn, but there was no response from the car driver. Suddenly, Swain came out of his car and hurled abuses at me for blowing the horn. I requested him to move his car from the road for smooth passage of my vehicle," Gupta said.

"Swain flew into a rage and assaulted me. He attacked my mother when she tried to protect me. My mother's upper lip was injured," Gupta alleged.

Based on her complaint, police registered a case under sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 294 (obscene act), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 34 (act done by several persons with common intention) of the IPC and arrested Swain.
