BHOPAL: A 42-year-old married woman allegedly died by suicide by jumping into Upper Lake under Bhadbhada bridge in Ratibad on Thursday. A few hours later her body was spotted by the locals floating in the water.
No suicide note was recovered. Prima facie police suspected that she was suffering from depression over loneliness and took the extreme step. Ratibad police registered a case and started investigations. Investigation officer ASI Nandkishore Dubey said Rashmi Sharma, 42, a resident of Swapnil Apartment in Kotra, ran a private garment business from her home. Her husband Amit works as a life insurance company agent. Their only son is studying BBA in Pune. Amit’s father resides with them. ASI Dubey said that Rashmi had gone to Ujjain to attend her brother’s son’s birthday programme from where she returned on Wednesday. On Thursday, Amit went to the office in the morning while Rashmi left home around 12.30pm saying that she was going to the neighbourhood.
She reached Bhadbhada bridge where she went down beside the lake in front of a temple and jumped into the water. As there was nobody present at the spot in the afternoon, none spotted her. She kept her mobile phone and handbag at the shore before taking the extreme step.
ASI Dubey said that around 4pm, her body was spotted by the locals floating in the water. Acting on information police reached the spot and fished out the body. Her identity was ascertained with the help of her mobile phone which was recovered from the spot and seized by the police.
