BHOPAL: A man allegedly pronounced ‘Triple Talaq’ and ended his marriage with his 43-year-old wife after 25 years of marriage in Jehangirabad locality.
Acting on the woman’s complaint, Jehangirabad police registered a case against the accused husband, his mother and sister under relevant sections of IPC and Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act of 2019 and started the investigations.
Police said that the 43-year-old survivor in her complaint stated that she was married to Shariq Mehmood, a resident of Jehangirabad, around 25 years back.
Shariq works as a CCTV camera technician; they have two children. She told police that her husband along with his mother and sister had been harassing her regularly. Whenever she protested, the accused assaulted her. Fed up of harassment by husband and in-laws, she had been residing at her parents’ home. She stated that a few months back in July 2021, a dispute took place between her and her husband during which he pronounced Triple Talaq and ended the marriage.
He forced her out of the house and when she requested her mother-in-law, she did not help her. The woman alleged that the dispute took place because her husband’s sister had provoked him against her. Subsequently, she reported the matter to police.
Investigating officer ASI Azra Khan said that during investigation of the complaint it was revealed that the accused did not gave any money to the survivor for domestic expenses.
