North Andhra Pradesh is set for a significant developmental milestone with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district on August 1, the state government announced on Monday. Built at a cost of nearly Rs 4,727 crore and completed in a record 31 months, the airport is ready to begin commercial operations and is being viewed as a transformational asset for the entire North Andhra region rather than merely an infrastructure project.
Among India's fastest-built greenfield airports
The airport has been developed to international standards as part of a broader vision to position Visakhapatnam among globally developed cities. It ranks among the fastest-completed greenfield international airports in the country, having been finished nearly five months ahead of schedule. The facility has already obtained its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, along with the necessary safety, fire and environmental clearances.
