BGT theatre group leaves Alesha Dixon in tears as she hands out Golden Buzzer

A theatre company left Alesha Dixon in tears on Britain's Got Talent tonight - as she handed out her Golden Buzzer.

Three members of Chicken Shed, a theatre company which welcomes anyone and is fully inclusive, appeared on stage first where they introduced themselves to the four judges - Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, Simon Cowell and Bruno Tonioli. They explained that they were a group who would be performing a singing and dancing routine.

For the group, inclusivity is at the heart of what they do and they explained how their group was so big because no one had to audition and everyone was accepted exactly as they are.

The three were soon joined on stage by many more young people as they performed a routine to the song Wonder by Naughty Boy ft. Emeli Sandé, leaving all the judges emotional as they watched on with pride.

As they finished their performance, there was a standing ovation from all the judges before Alesha Dixon leaned over and pressed her Golden Buzzer, leaving the audience both at the Palladium and tuning in from home singing their praises.

Simon Cowell heaped praise on the act, telling them: "I've known about you for a while and what you do is actually incredible. This performance sums up everything you do. This really really really is a Golden Buzzer moment."

"I love every single thing you stand for. Inclusivity is so important. Everyone is represented and you do that in abundance. And you’re giving young people opportunities and platforms and I don’t know what else is more important than that," Alesha added.

One of the members of Chickenshed, Jimmy, credits his fellow theatre lovers for saving his life after he lost his mum at the age of 16.

"Losing a parent is a very hard thing and I always felt like it happened once in a lifetime to someone so young. Then I came to Chickenshed and there were so many people who could relate to that pain," he told The Mirror.

"I bottled a lot of emotion inside but found rap music and was able to express myself. I was able to grieve… it saved my life. Chickenshed gave me a second chance I thought I was never really going to get."

Staff member and lead singer Cara McInanny added: "Chickenshed is such a beautiful way of living and I thought the nation deserved to see how I felt every day. The judges were lovely. Alesha [Dixon] gave us a big cuddle. She smelled great."
