BGT singing teacher's past fame revealed - show with I'm A Celeb star, West End & BBC role

Abi Carter-Simpson wowed the judges with her original song on Britain's Got Talent tonight.

The four judges - Simon Cowell, Bruno Tonioli, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon - were impressed with teacher Abi's performance during tonight's episode of the ITV talent show. She appeared nervous as she arrived on stage, before confirming to the judges that her job is being a teacher to her class of Year Sixes, who had no idea she was on the show.

She received four yeses for her performance, which featured a song about children's hopes and dreams as she encouraged everyone – young or old – to do what they want with their life and seize every opportunity.

However, she is familiar with performing on stage, having appeared in a number of comedy shows. She has also performed on the Alternative stage at Reading and Leeds festival and counts Drag Race UK star Kitty Scott Claus as one of her friends.

She has been performing for over a decade and counts her talents as comedy, singing, acting and presenting. Training at the Guilford School of Acting, she has a degree in musical theatre and has performed in many productions across the UK.

She made her West End debut in 2016, which also led to her touring the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. Abi was also a part of Newsrevue, the show which has also featured the likes of Alistair McGowan and Bill Bailey.

Abi performed in the same shows as top comedians including Stephen K Amos, Romesh Ranganathan and I'm A Celebrity star Seann Walsh. She has also had an acting role in Agatha Raisin & The Deadly Dance for Sky, where she starred alongside Ashley Jensen, Gavin and Stacey star Matt Horne and Adam Garcia.

She has also appeared on All Together Now, the BBC One show which was presented by Rob Beckett and saw singing hopefuls try and convince the 100 people to sing along with them. Abi also took part in a number of comedy competitions.

Giving his verdict, Simon Cowell said: "I think they like you! You're very likeable, very sweet and the message was fun," as Bruno Tonioli - who joined the show this year - added: "You manage with your writing to be funny and at the same time, saying very valid things. We like people that have such a range talent. I think you could definitely be on that bracket."
