Britain's Got Talent host Ant McPartlin has revealed he suffered a head injury and had to be treated by medics after trying to copy one of the acts performing on stage during filming of the new series. TV presenting duo And and Dec were up to their usual antics when they shared a clip on their social media of 46-year-old Ant attempting to crack a coconut with his hand, before using his forehead to try and break the fruit.
The BGT act, which saw a man trying to make a world record for breaking the most coconuts in one minute, was shown on ITV on Saturday (April 23). But in new behind the scenes footage, Ant was seen trying to mimic the contestants efforts - and epically failing.
The social media clip showed Ant alongside co-host Declan Donnelly giggling as they attempted the challenge in the stage wings during the act's performance.
Trying to replicate the act, Ant picked up a coconut and attempted to smash it open with his fist. Unfortunately he failed and then recoiled and swore because of the pain. A 'DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME' warning flashes up on screen as Ant adds: "Do not punch coconuts kids! It really hurts... I think I nearly broke my knuckle".
After being encouraged by a member of the BGT crew to try and use his forehead, Ant then has a go, before holding his hand to his forehead and saying through gritted teeth: "Why would you say forehead?! Because I'm bound to try it aren't I?". Co-host Dec also tries to break the hard-shelled fruit with his hand but also had no luck and said: "That's horrible that!".
As the clip continues, it's clear Ant has damaged his forehead, Dec notices his co-host's head is bleeding telling his pal: "You've cut your head on a coconut," with Ant pointing at the crew member and shouting: "You said use your forehead!". A medic wearing an ambulance uniform is then seen walking into shot to bandage Ant's head, with Ant telling him: "This is vey extreme for a little tap on the forehead".
The medic used an oversized bandage, which had the pair in stitches, and told Ant he'll need a new bandage every day for the next three weeks. "Well, I look like a right prize plonker don't I?" Ant said to which Dec laughed and said: "Yes, yes you do!".
A clearly undeterred Ant was still adamant he wanted to break at least one coconut and heads on stage to try again, "I want to break records" he told Dec as Dec grabs onto his arms and says "Stop doing it!" You're already hurt!".
Britain's Got Talent continues on ITV and ITV Hub on Saturday, April 30 from 8pm.
