A Britain's Got Talent star is set to bring the issue of disability to the fore in a new series.
Former Britain's Got Talent star Jack Carroll has written and starred in new BBC comedy short Mobility, which focuses on three Huddersfield students who have nothing in common apart from taking the mobility bus to school together on the first day of sixth form.
Jack, who has cerebral palsy, plays the central character of Mike in the short film, with a potential for a series left open. In the teaser clip, it says: “It’s the first day of sixth form, and Mike is looking forward to a bit of social mobility. He’s way better than the group of loser friends he’s somehow accrued, and aspires to higher things.

“But for now Mike is stuck with Sunny, an upbeat and unapologetic geek, and Dan, a lad so acerbic he only communicates in put-downs. Mike thinks he can do better, but he’s going to find it hard to shake them off: Mike, Sunny and Dan all use the mobility bus.
“Mike has cerebral palsy, Sunny uses a wheelchair, and Dan Syndrome has Down’s Syndrome. So Mike, Sunny and Dan are trapped together, at least for the ride to school.”
In a recent interview with Radio Times, Jack said that he and co-writer Tom Gregory both envisage the short film "very much as a pilot episode of a sitcom". Jack also discussed the current state of the TV landscape when it comes to disability representation.
He said: “It's always a difficult question to answer because I can only speak from my perspective, my experience of disability, and there's thousands of different types of disabilities and experiences that people have with those disabilities.
"I think it's getting better. But I think that we've got to find that diversity within diversity. Because I think there is a danger that people go, 'Oh we've got one or two shows with disabled people in them and that's enough'. But there's a lot of diversity within disability that I think doesn’t really get the coverage that it should”
You can watch Mobility on BBC THREE tonight at 10pm or you can stream it on BBC iPlayer now.
