Britain’s Got Talent fans think they have finally rumbled the identity of The Witches after last night’s tense semi-final.
The terrifying contestant spooked Amanda Holden so much during their latest performance that the judge fled from her seat.
Tension in the studio soared as one of the creepy contestants placed a box on the panel desk which promoted Amanda to ask: “Is there a rat in there?”
Bravely putting her hand inside, the 51-year-old screamed as The Witch held up the rodent and then proceeded to chase her round the studio with it.
“What’s the matter Amanda? Rat got your tongue?” The Witch was heard saying in a seemingly Scouse accent.
But although he’s not from Liverpool, Britain’s Got Talent fans are now convinced The Witch is TV host Stephen Mulhern.
Taking to Twitter on Monday night, fans shared they think The Witch is Stephen – but suggested hosts Ant and Dec could also be in on the act.
One fan wrote: “The Witch is going to be Stephen Mulhern. No official Twitter page. So has to be a magician connected to the show. That hasn’t done that for years. And there was only one in the audition #BGT.”
Another said: “Pretty sure the Witches are Ant, Dec and the one performing tonight was Stephen Mulhern! I’ll be raging if I’m wrong.”
“Actually, The Witch DOES sound a bit like Stephen Mulhern #BGT,” a third tweeted.
Giving more insight into why The Witch could be Stephen a fourth claimed it was to get “revenge” on Amanda.
“So #TheWitch on #BGT is @stephenmulhern getting revenge on Amanda for something that happened on the after show one year. I forget what but anyway he’s a bloody good magician.”
It comes after Stephen himself appeared to hint he could be The Witch after sharing a photo getting his make-up done by Ant’s ex-wife Lisa Armstrong on Instagram.
He captioned the post: “Everyone keeps asking if I’m The Witch from @bgt! Well you might want to ask @lisaarmstrongmakeup what I look like before she put makeup on me!”
Commenting underneath one of his 614,000 followers wrote: “You always look great! So was it you?”
“Too ugly for you x,” another said, while a third posted: “Ooh you aren’t denying it.”
Sadly The Witch was sent home on Monday night without making it through to the Britain’s Got Talent final.
So far Singer Maxwell Thorpe and ventriloquist Jamie Leahey are through to the final show which will air on ITV on Sunday June 5.
The other finalists will be decided this week, as the show airs every night.
The public will get to choose one of the eight acts performing each night to go straight through on the finale. Then the judges must choose a second act between two more contestants.
•Britain's Got Talent is on every night this week at 8pm on ITV
