Beyond Paradise first look as Humphrey tackles new case in Death In Paradise spin-off

DI Humphrey Goodman is given a seemingly impossible case this week on BBC's Beyond Paradise.

The detective - played by Kris Marshall - returns to work following his and fiancé Martha's devastating loss, and he's faced with a very unusual case. He is tasked with helping to find a family of four, who have completely vanished from their house.

Humphrey has moved back to Shipton Abbott, Devon with Martha after the pair rekindled their love whilst she was on holiday in Saint Marie and he was there leading the team on Death In Paradise, with Neville Parker now having taken over.

In an exclusive first look clip from tonight's episode shared with the Mirror Online, PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) has been tasked with finding out what car a certain headlight might be from and he heads to ask a mechanic for some advice.

However, there's just one problem - the headlight is smashed into smithereens and the chance of identifying it looks impossible.

It will no doubt form part of the investigation into trying to locate the missing family, who have disappeared from their home with the TV still on and their dinner half-eaten on the table. But what happened to them?

Actor Kris revealed he felt at home in the outfit belonging to the character - and even discovered some notes from previous series.

"I’d put him back in his box. I thought he was gone. I did worry about returning to him in the back of my mind. But, as soon as I put the brogues and jacket back on, I was like, this is the same guy who arrived in the Caribbean in 2014," he told Radio Times, "Excited, open-minded, wanting to make the best of things. I even found some of the notes that I’d written for the previous show in his pockets."

It comes after the show's co-creator and writer Tony Jordan revealed he's already started working on a second season.

Asked if there would be a second series, he said: "I hope so, I've started writing it! Ever the optimist, I'm not even waiting to be commissioned. We’ve got loads of stories that didn't make the cut for season 1, loads of great areas.

"But the main reason for doing it is that Tim [Key, executive producer] has got this long held ambition, that I only discovered last week, about filming on a steam train - not that he’s a nerd or anything!"

He added: "So I can tell you if there's a season 2, it’ll definitely be on a steam train."
