Lansdowne, Uttarakhand, The Hill Town That Forgot to Get Famous
Most people driving toward the hills from Delhi default to Mussoorie or Nainital. Lansdowne sits 258 kilometres from Delhi, a five-to-six hour drive through Garhwal, and it has stayed quiet for a reason that has nothing to do with quality. The British built it as a garrison town for the Garhwal Rifles, and that military character never fully dissolved. The cantonment still operates. The roads are clean. The oak and rhododendron forests are dense enough that you lose the sound of traffic within minutes of leaving the main street.
