A betting shop due to be displaced by redevelopment is to relocate on the other side of the town’s central square.
The William Hill branch in the precinct on Blackburn Street, Radcliffe, is in an area earmarked for future development by Bury Council with the buildings there set to be used for ‘proposed hub buildings’.
However, the national betting chain said they wished to remain in the town and have now been granted permission to change the use of the former Glam Interiors building, just across the square, on Church Street West, into gambling premises.

Hills said that keeping a shop in the town would make sure that two full time and two part jobs would be retained.
A planning statement, said: “Bury council is seeking to redevelop the block of property where William Hill is presently located for ‘proposed hub buildings’ and, in order that the redevelopment may proceed, vacant possession is being sought.
“William Hill wish to retain a presence in Radcliffe and they have identified Church Street West as being suitable. Those premises have apparently been vacant for a considerable time and they are not too far distant from their existing premises.”
A planning officer report, said: “The application site is a retail shop which has been vacant since 2019. It was formally used by ‘Glam Interiors’ between 2016 and 2019 and prior to that was a shop selling paint and wallpaper.
“This proposal seeks to open between the hours of 9am to 10pm Monday – Sunday. The nature of the proposed use will increase footfall in the area and within the building for longer hours than the former retail shop was open for.
“The proposals will occupy a vacant shop on a primary shopping frontage that has a high vacancy rate and will result in the re-vitalisation of this particular part of Church Street West while also allowing the redevelopment of the Blackburn Street shopping front as part of the council’s regeneration plans.”
The plans have now been approved by Bury Council.
