Bette Midler has found a new outlet for her lifelong love of gardening: a fashion collaboration with Flora Animalia, the Los Angeles-based sustainable clothing label founded by designer Rozae Nichols. The limited-edition line, called "The Divine Miss M & Flora Animalia," translates the pair's shared passion for growing things into a collection of aprons, a caftan, shirts, denim pieces and garden-ready home textiles, all produced in Flora Animalia's Los Angeles studio.
Nichols founded Flora Animalia in 2019 after stepping away from a four-decade fashion career, initially to run an edible-garden workshop space in the West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles. The label grew out of a small collection of functional aprons Nichols designed for her own gardening, eventually expanding into workwear-inspired shirts, dresses, pants and outerwear made largely from GOTS-certified organic cotton and Belgian linen. Everything is cut and sewn in-house by a small studio team.
