Bethesda Game Studios has laid out a broader picture of what is coming next for one of its most beloved franchises. The update touches on several projects at once, giving fans their clearest look yet at where the series is headed after years of speculation.
Bethesda Shares Official Statement on 'Fallout'
Bethesda published a lengthy studio update addressing the future of the Fallout franchise, confirming that multiple projects are currently in different stages of development (via GameRant). The statement described Fallout as one of the studio's biggest priorities going forward, extending well beyond the ongoing support for "Fallout 76" and the continued success of the live-action television series.
Bethesda framed the update as a way to give fans a clearer sense of what is being worked on, even though many of the individual projects still do not have confirmed release windows.
'Fallout 5': Is There an Update to Its Release?
According to Bethesda, "Fallout 5" has officially entered preproduction, a stage that typically covers early design work, technical planning, and initial prototypes rather than full-scale development.
The studio referred to the game as its long-range destination for the series, echoing similar language it has used in past years.
"Fallout 5" is being built using Creation Engine 3, the same next-generation engine also powering "The Elder Scrolls VI," which Bethesda continues to treat as its main development priority. Because of that, full production on "Fallout 5" is not expected to ramp up until "The Elder Scrolls VI" reaches a much later point in its own development.
'Fallout' Remasters Coming From Bethesda
Bethesda also confirmed that remastered versions of both "Fallout 3" and "Fallout: New Vegas" are officially in development. The studio said it recognizes how many players want to revisit those earlier entries, though it stopped short of sharing a release date for either project.
A "Fallout 3" remaster had previously surfaced in internal planning documents made public through Microsoft's legal dispute over its Activision Blizzard acquisition, though those earlier plans predate the delays that have since affected Bethesda's schedule.
The "Fallout: New Vegas" remaster had circulated mostly as rumor before this statement, and Bethesda's confirmation marks the first official word tying the project to Obsidian Entertainment, the original developer behind that game.
Alongside the two remasters, Bethesda confirmed it is working with Obsidian again on a separate, currently unannounced Fallout project, stating that the two studios are teaming up once more and that more details will follow later.
What to Expect From 'Raven Rock' Expansion
Bethesda also revealed plans for a major expansion to "Fallout 76" titled "Raven Rock," scheduled to arrive sometime in 2027. The expansion is described as a prequel story tied directly to "Fallout 3," suggesting it will explore events and locations connected to that earlier game's setting before the bombs fell on the Capital Wasteland.
Beyond "Raven Rock," Bethesda noted that "Fallout Shelter" will continue receiving new seasonal content, and that production on the next season of the "Fallout" television series is already underway.
With so many projects now confirmed at once, Bethesda cautioned that most of these announcements remain light on specifics for the time being, meaning fans should expect a gradual rollout of details rather than anything immediate.
