Coming into the matchup between Ohio State and Iowa on Saturday, all the talk surrounded the poor Hawkeye offense and stout defense. The side of the ball responsible for putting up resistance against teams scoring points didn’t disappoint in the second half, but Iowa’s offense was just as bad as advertised.
And social media — most notably Twitter — wasn’t going to let the Iowa offense off the hook.
All told, the Hawkeyes turned the ball over six times, failed to score an offensive touchdown, allowed five sacks and mustered 158 yards of offense.
Twitter users were quick, decisive and cruel as the game unfolded. We have some of the best Twitter roasts delivered for your consumption. We love the Iowa program, but why not have a little fun at its expense this one time since we had to hold in a beat down at the hands of the Hawkeyes five years ago?

An interesting game plan, no?
If Iowa can keep its offense off the field, they’ve got a shot today

Not good to hear coming from a guy that knows a thing or two about football
Iowa Qbs are bad and that’s being extremely nice.

Rare criticism from Adam Rittenberg
Iowa has to make a QB change. I don't care how good he is in practice.

Well, that's one way to look at it

Ouch, that has to hurt
Best part of Iowa scoring a defensive touchdown is that you don’t have to watch the Iowa offense again

Might want to put 'em to bed
Interception already…
Please Ohio State. Think of the kids.

I mean, it's a great question
I don't know how the Iowa defense doesn't fight the Iowa offense.
— Chris Vannini (@ChrisVannini) October 22, 2022
The media piled on Iowa and this was another example
At this point, you can't fault Spencer Petras. He is who he is. The Iowa coaching staff is to blame for this offense's ineptitude and reluctancy to change QBs.

We are starting to see a trend ...

Just like they drew it up
Of course Iowa would take the lead on a defensive TD…

Let's start the petition now
Northwestern at Iowa next week should be played at 9 am ET. A game with six safeties and four defensive touchdowns deserves its own time slot

Not all sportswriting jobs are created equal
I'm paid to write about Iowa football.
And I have zero words to describe what's going on.

Well, it was a good thought

Best way to score seven points?
Iowa’s preferred TD’s ranked
1. The Iowa (1FG + 2 safeties)
2. Defensive TD
3. End of list.— Mike Golic Jr (@mikegolicjr) October 22, 2022

Someone file a police report!
I think what Kirk and Brian Ferentz are doing to Iowa fans qualifies as cruel and unusual punishment

There might be counseling available for these types of moments
The Iowa defense forcing a turnover and then the Iowa backup qb, in his first snap of the season, immediately fumbling it away is the most Iowa football moment of all time.
— Lucy Rohden (@lucysportsjokes) October 22, 2022
I sense some bitterness from the home folks here
Ohio State is somewhat confused playing a competent defense.
Unfortunately, Iowa is confused by playing offense in general.

Sitting here just giggling to myself at this point.

This is a creative take on NIL
The Iowa offense should be required to give all their NIL money to the defense
— Lucy Rohden (@lucysportsjokes) October 22, 2022
At least it was optimistic
This is not ideal when:

2: you are playing Ohio State
3: you are Iowa playing Ohio State pic.twitter.com/EccPnUNN02— CJ Vogel (@CJVogel_TFB) October 22, 2022
A rare troll moment from Nicole Auerbach
the Iowa offense https://t.co/UkiymXdnoK

Well, in retrospect
Update, Iowa's offense did score exactly 3 points today. We regret our inaccuracy and apologize. https://t.co/t9KuFW3rI5

Funny at first glance, but then, he might have a point
Honest question: What is the score in the Ohio State-Iowa game if Iowa took knees on every offensive play before punting?
