Newcastle United delivered another statement victory with a hard-fought home win over Chelsea. Joe Willock scored the only goal of the game as Eddie Howe's side had to grind out the result over the Blues.
It was an uneventful first-half at St James' Park, with Newcastle controlling play without fashioning chances. The hosts were aggrieved after seeing a late penalty shout waved away, with Trevoh Chalobah handling the ball in the box while sliding to block a cross from Dan Burn.
Willock fired the Magpies in front in the 67th minute, stepping on to the ball and guiding it beyond Edouard Mendy from the edge of the box. It was a nervous end for the Toon Army, with seven minutes added on for Chelsea to attempt to find an equaliser.
