With the dead period over, college teams all across the country hosted recruits during the weekend. Ohio State held its event, called SummerFest, while its rival, Michigan, held a BBQ at the Big House.
Even though it was called a BBQ, there wasn’t much grilling going on aside from on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Multiple accounts went after the food that the Wolverines were serving the recruits, as it was nowhere near what BBQ should look like.
It started when a recruit, Elijah Dotson, shared a photo of his plate, and the hot takes ensued. Take a look below at some of the best responses to what the Wolverines call BBQ up in Ann Arbor.

BBQ or not?
This looks like food that would be served in a school cafeteria lunchroom. It’s hardly BBQ and shouldn’t be viewed as appetizing.
A poke at the potential suspension
Harbaugh got suspended for this??? https://t.co/wyX4BA1pVd

Reaction
If this was some of the food that Jim Harbaugh was getting a potential suspension for, it probably wasn’t worth it.
A transfer in order?
Send the chef to the transfer portal https://t.co/OWoFjBK52u

Transfer the chef?
Yeah, this is a fireable offense if anyone is calling this meal BBQ. The Wolverines might need to hit the portal to find a better chef.
Not just Buckeye fan’s reacting
Michigan feeding recruits frozen tenders and that weak ass hot dog is hilarious 😂😂😂 https://t.co/flgqrxqqao

Everyone is getting involved
It’s not just the Buckeye fans who see this isn’t a good look, the Irish fans are getting their jabs in as well.
Is it?
Cafeteria food? https://t.co/ksaur49blE
— Ryan (@SpartanRyan) July 30, 2023
The answer is…
It very well could pass as cafeteria food, certainly not something that recruits should be eating.
Southern BBQ
This is why southern schools win recruits over at their bbqs. They don’t do this. https://t.co/7FcQZPbWg8

BBQ in the South
There is no denying that BBQ in the South is better, but at least give an effort.
A play on their slogan
THOSE WHO STAY… will be fed microwave food. https://t.co/EvaTL9mcEV

Those who stay
Can’t argue with the assessment here. The food doesn’t look appealing in any way.
This was a well timed jab ... too soon?

What is it?
What is this? https://t.co/N1myO2rjnG

To answer
It clearly isn’t a meal that should be shared on social media. Maybe a quick home meal on the go, but for a recruiting event, this isn’t it.
