Best Prime Video top 10 movies — here are the 3 worth streaming this week (April 20-26)

Thinking about a Prime Video movie night this week but feeling overwhelmed by choice? With new titles constantly landing, it helps to know which films are actually worth streaming. However, just because a movie is trending doesn’t mean it’s any good, and that’s exactly the case with “Balls Up,” the streamer’s new No. 1 comedy.

We take a look at what’s trending on Prime Video and narrow it down to three standout picks, giving you a go-to shortlist of movies whenever you’re stuck on what to watch next. This week, that includes a tense Glen Powell action-thriller, a remarkable drama based on a true story, and Tom Cruise's final outing as the iconic Ethan Hunt.

My three recommendations (along with a complete look at the current Prime Video top 10 movies) are below.

Note: This article is based on the Prime Video top 10 movies list on Monday, April 20, 2026.

Best Prime Video top 10 movies to stream right now

‘The Running Man’ (2025)

A new take on Stephen King’s dystopian story, this version leans far closer to the source material than the ‘80s action-heavy outing led by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Glen Powell plays Ben Richards, a desperate father who enters a lethal reality show to pay for his daughter’s treatment. “The Running Man” is gripping early on but struggles to maintain that edge as it goes. Still, Powell brings undeniable charisma, and while Edgar Wright keeps his usual stylistic flair restrained, the direction is still slick and controlled.

“The Running Man” follows Ben Richards (Powell), a struggling father in a near-future society who is running out of options to pay for his daughter’s medical treatment. Desperate, he signs up for a hugely popular reality TV show where contestants must survive for 30 days while being hunted by professional killers, with every moment broadcast to a global audience. Throughout the game, Ben becomes an unexpected fan favorite, drawing attention for his resilience and refusal to play by the rules.

‘Sarah’s Oil’ (2025)

If you’re in the mood for a charming little movie, “Sarah’s Oil” should be on your watchlist. This is a feel-good, family-friendly drama inspired by the true story of Sarah Rector, an 11-year-old girl in early 1900s Oklahoma who discovers oil on land she’s been allotted. Both enlightening and sincerely moving, this historical drama manages to balance fact with feeling, showing the far-reaching impact of a child’s determination. Plus, audiences clearly enjoyed it, as reflected in its impressive 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Sarah's Oil” tells the story of Sarah Rector (Naya Desir-Johnson), a young girl in early 1900s Oklahoma who is granted a plot of land through a government allotment program. While others see the land as barren and useless, Sarah becomes convinced that oil lies beneath it. When drilling begins, a massive oil strike transforms her life overnight, bringing sudden wealth and attention. Determined to protect what is hers, Sarah learns to read contracts and work through a rapidly changing world while managing her newfound success.

‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ (2025)

Every great run has to end eventually, and that includes huge franchises like “Mission: Impossible.” For now, at least, “The Final Reckoning” serves as the likely conclusion to the spy saga. It still carries the weight of its complicated predecessor, 2023’s “Dead Reckoning.” But after a steady course correction early on, it builds real momentum with a series of inventive, large-scale stunt set pieces. This movie alone is worth it for its tense underwater submarine sequence.

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” follows Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the IMF team as they race to stop a rogue artificial intelligence known as “the Entity,” which has infiltrated global intelligence systems and gained control over critical nuclear infrastructure. As governments worldwide attempt to secure or weaponize the AI, Ethan refuses to hand over a key that could unlock its source code. Instead, he continues tracking Gabriel (Esai Morales), a former operative tied to the Entity’s creation, while assembling allies across the IMF network.
