Unlike domestic stock funds, which invest primarily in U.S. companies, international stock funds invest in companies outside of the U.S. Investing in companies outside the United States can help diversify investors' portfolios, mitigate risk and prevent investors from missing out on global growth opportunities. International funds may include developed- and emerging-market investments in a variety of asset classes and offer different risk profiles and returns.
