With my second baby due in a matter of weeks, creating a safe sleep setup has once again shot to the top of my to-do list. I still remember how invaluable our Moses basket was with my first child, giving us a cosy, portable place for her to sleep wherever we were in the house. Whether it was beside my bed overnight or downstairs during the day while I tackled the never-ending washing pile, it quickly became one of the most-used pieces of baby kit we owned.
A safe sleep space is one of the most important things you'll buy before your baby arrives. The Lullaby Trust recommends that babies sleep in the same room as you for at least the first six months, day and night, as room-sharing helps reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). They should always sleep on their back in their own clear, flat, firm sleep space, such as a bedside cot or Moses basket.
