Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max (256 GB)
During the ‘Wonderlust’ showcase, we were shown a new design for the phone, namely a colour-infused back glass with a matte, textured finish and a more contoured edge. All devices come with a 48MP main camera while the more advanced Pro and Pro Max models have the added bonus of a 2x Telephoto option for 3x optical zoom.
There has also been a switch-up in the charging port to the widely used USB-C and greater precision for Find My Friends and Roadside Assistance connected via satellite to suit those off the grid. The phones are available in five new colours; pink, yellow, green, blue, and black.
It also has a slightly bigger battery: Apple says the Pro Max can handle a staggering 29 hours of video playback, while the Pro can manage a respectable 23 hours.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro, 128GB
Apple saved the best upgrades for the iPhone 15 Pro lineup. Firstly, there’s the titanium design, making them lighter but just as strong as their predecessors. Whereas other iPhones come in stainless steel.
Under the hood, the A17 Pro chip is the fastest smartphone processor on the market if you believe Apple. Even the phone’s minor improvements could pay off, like the action button that replaces the mute switch and offers quick access to apps and tools.

Apple iPhone 15 (256 GB)
The standard iPhone 15 boasts several noticeable upgrades over the iPhone 14: a USB-C port, an interactive screen cutout instead of a plain notch, and an improved chip and 48MP camera borrowed from last year’s iPhone 14 Pro. The last of those is especially significant as the iPhone 14 had a 12MP main camera.
As usual, Apple is promising even better-zoomed shots, low-light snaps, and stabilisation across video and stills. Notably, the iPhone’s screen is also twice as bright outdoors, which should make it a lot clearer when it is sunny.
Looks-wise, the iPhone 15 has squared-off edges compared to the more rounded curves of its predecessor. All told, it offers a substantial jump over the iPhone 14 and should wipe the floor with even older models.

iPhone 14 Pro
Best for: Ultimate Apple action underwater
There are a variety of iPhones to choose from, all of which feature some form of water-resistance rating, but the big gun in Apple’s arsenal is the iPhone 14 Pro.
Available with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display (or 6.7-inches in the case of the 14 Pro Max) covered in Corning-made glass, this iPhone takes the brightness, colour and contrast of images and video to a whole new height, and the120Hz refresh rate makes it great for gaming.
Powered by Apple’s mighty A16 Bionic chip, the 14Pro is lightning fast without ever becoming over-keen and opening apps you only finger-glanced by accident. With a 48-megapixel rear camera and 12MP front-facer and blessed with an entire array of photo and video backing technologies, whatever you shoot with this will come out clear, sharp and densely detailed.
It is great for anyone with a penchant for the pool or a love of lakes as, rated at IP68, according to Apple and IEC Standard 60529, the 14 Pro can actually survive a rather remarkable 30 minutes underwater at depth of up to – wait for it – a staggering six-metres! What’s more, some of that taking piccies tech I alluded to mere moments ago is particularly geared towards helping you get the best sub-aqua snaps, which will make for far more interesting images to, ahem, splash on social media.
I’m an Android man, myself, and I have been for the past 12 or 13 years, but if anything could tempt me over to Apple instead, it’d be this.
- OS: iOS
- Display: 6.1- or 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display
- Glass: Corning-made
- Chipset: A16 Bionic
- Memory: 128GB to 1TB
- RAM: 6GB
- Camera: 48MP (main) and 12MP (front)
- Protection rating: IP68
- Weight: 206g

Apple iPhone 14 (256 GB)
As with its previous iPhone 13 offering, Apple has released not one, but four different handsets under its latest iteration. This time, it’s the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with pre-orders now available across the whole range.
While the Super Retina XDR display is not new to the iPhone, this model comes with a brightness of up to 2,000 nits. For context, that’s 1,200 nits more than its predecessor. And according to Apple, no other smartphone is as bright.
As to be expected of a flagship phone, the 14 comes with a longer battery life than its predecessors. Apple says this handset offers up to 20 hours of video playback.

Best Samsung deals
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6
Connecting over Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, the Z Flip6 is ideally suited to pairing up with wireless speakers or smartwatches, such as the all-new Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, giving epically strong connections that won’t falter and leave you high and dry. There is also a range of precision sensors and GPS to see to all your location and security needs, while a reasonably capacious 4000mAH battery will stand you in good stead for longer before charges.
Is this Samsung’s opus magnum of opening phones? Yes, yes it is. A stunningly realised thing of ringing beauty, it’s extremely attractive and equally well-built, every part of it is of premium-quality and it simply demands to be picked up, cherished and admired every few minutes in a manner that some from the outside may find obsessive, maybe even weird, but I challenge anyone to resist. Then there’s performance – speed is unsurpassed and functionality comes in smart-spades, instantly making itself at home as the hub of all your tech time.
So, the Z Flip6 is the best Samsung flip phone, that’s a given, but is it the best flip phone on the market full-stop? Well, from the cover screen to the cameras to the way it makes every action feel so utterly effortless, I confidently state the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 phone is the flip phone that flip phone fans have been eagerly awaiting for so long; so yes again, yes it is.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6
This impressive new launch from Samsung only gets better the more time you spend with it.
From a sharp and bright display and a whip-fast processor to incredible zoom on the cameras and auto adjust that picks out the finest detail, this may be the most capable handset on the market today. The slightly larger main display and sharper corners make the most of every millimetre so you’re getting as much viewing and browsing space as possible (especially helpful when you’re using multiple apps at once).
The 120hz refresh rate is perfect for streaming shows, scrolling your newsfeed or catching up on the latest headlines, not to mention remote working, especially with the Multi View feature which allows you to see up to three apps at once.
Its range of developed AI features is what makes the Galaxy Z Fold6 soar above the competition, from Live Translate, Chat Assist, Browsing Assist and its much-celebrated Circle to Search innovation (in partnership with Google). This tech is reflected in the elevated RRP, but if you can afford it, it’s the best phone for your pocket. Oh and the folding mechanism? Well, that never gets old.
The phone is powered by a 4400mAh battery but there’s also super fast charging to get your handset back up to full power quicker.
Samsung has once again raised the bar for mobile technology with this device, leaving the competition quaking in its wake.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
Best for: keeping in your pocket
The 200MP main wide-angle camera on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra takes some excellent still images, and it’s really good for video too. It’s capable of shooting 8K at up to 30fps, but perhaps more interesting is the ability to capture 4K video at up to 120fps for high-res slow-motion effects. You’ll need a lot of storage to hold so much video data, and up to 1TB of internal capacity is available.
The S24 Ultra’s cameras are optically stabilised and use phase-detection autofocus. The phone also has a dual-recording feature that captures footage from the front and rear cameras simultaneously, perfect for vloggers documenting an event as they can walk and talk without a complicated camera setup.

Best Google Pixel deals
Google Pixel 9
Moving from iPhone to Pixel, the first thing you will remark about the 9 is just how sleek, thin and lightweight it is. This is, of course, before you slip it into a case.
The Pixel 9 has the majority of the features of its Pro alternative; including the Gemini AI chatbot and photo editing functions like Add Me, Magic Erase and Best Take. Where it falls short is in resolution, refresh rate and brightness, factors that may not be too important or noticeable to the average smartphone user. There is, however, a polished glass back (rather than the matte of the higher-powered models) and you don’t get the extra telephoto camera or five-time optical zoom of the Pro and Pro XL.
It has the same screen size and battery size as the Pixel 9 Pro.

Google Pixel 8 Pro
While older models were designed to appeal to budget buyers, the Pixel 8 is punching into higher price brackets - with sharpened tech and features to justify it. The fanciest of the 8th iteration is the Pro handset with a 6.7-inch screen under which lies a custom Tensor G3 processor to keep content rolling glitch- and flicker-free.
It comes with 12GB of RAM and four incredible cameras: 50MP main, 48MP ultra-wide, 48MP telephoto, and a 10.5MP front camera for sharp selfies. The pixels aren’t the only draw; there are AI-powered features like Best Take and Audio Magic Eraser that offer unrivalled editing without needing to download extra apps.
Another clever feature is Live Translate, which gives instant translation from 49 languages - indispensable for frequent fliers.
Battery life is another boon, with the Pixel 8 Pro going past the 24-hour mark on a single charge, meaning you won’t be plunged into digital oblivion if you forget your charger or battery pack.

Nokia 2660 Flip
Best for: A freedom-brining flipping good phone
It has been said that it’s important to take timeout for a digital detox every so often. While I don’t dispute or doubt that, I don’t believe it helps to go completely cold turkey, so while killing the social feeds for a bit is a ‘thing’, the capability to make and take calls and texts, enjoy some stress-free sounds and, erm, see in the dark are all important aspects to the day-to-day.
Which brings me to this: the Nokia 2660 Flip, a folding feature phone that does all of the above… and, happily, very little else.
Firstly, some specs. Weighing just 123g, the 2660 has a 2.8-inch QVGA display and a 1.77-inch QQVGA secondary display on the outside to keep you abreast of all the stuff that’s not happening to you, the Flip features a Unisoc T107 processor, which does an excellent job keeping all the low-key features, such as the voice recorder, converter, torch, calculator, seven onboard games, and assembled multimedia all in check and running smoothly.
With Bluetooth 4.2 and network compatibility up to 4G, and a single 0.3MP camera, the Flip does, well, what the Flip does, which is keep you connected to the world while freeing you from the mind-clutter of the online circus.
Design-wise, the 2660 is pleasingly chunky, so fits the hand well, opens with ease and is imbued with large, well-spaced buttons, making it an ideal first phone for kids, as it allows them to keep in contact but safe from all the weirdos lurking on the web, and also for the elderly… for much the same reasons.
Available in Pop Pink, Lush Green, Red, Blue or Black, the 2660 Flip is a slice of basic brilliance that harks back to a simpler time when phones were phones and the internet was something that you left behind when you left the house.

Nokia XR21 5G 6.49” Smartphone
Nokia's XR21 is ready and waiting for action and adventure. The remarkably capable phone boasts a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD display, with a 120HZ refresh rate, reasonable brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus shielding the lot.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 keeps the action running smoothly and there's 128GB of memory and 6GB of RAM, which isn't as much as other Android models, but we're willing to forgive this for the other standout features.
Amateur photographers will delight in a 64-megapixel wide and an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera on the back and a 12-megapixel lens on the front, all capable of Flash shot mode, Night mode 2.0, AI Portrait, UW Capture fusion, SpeedWarp, and Action cam. There's also wizardry in OZO Spatial Audio capture which allows you to play with wind-noise cancellation so you can drown out background noise if you like.
Also Mil-Spec-810H-rated, the XR21 can withstand drops from 1.8-metres high, dust storms and utter extremes of temperature. Whatever adventures you have planned, this baby is ready to go with you.
