It’s no secret that single-use menstrual products, like tampons and sanitary towels, contribute to landfill waste. In fact, one study found that these products generate around 28,114 tonnes of waste per year. And research published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology tells us that items like sanitary pads can take around 500 to 800 years to break down. What’s worse, if your pad or tampon contains plastic, it will never truly biodegrade.
