Whatever kind of birth you have planned, it’s normal for bleeding (lochia) to happen over a number of weeks after giving birth. This bleeding will vary in its volume from person to person but in the first few days, it will be heavier than a period, before it starts to tail off. This means you will need to wear special absorbent underwear or pads to stop any leakage for 24 hours a day.
