Best kids’ toy deals for Amazon Prime Day 2024: Offers on Barbie, Toniebox and more

Keeping children entertained is hard work.

For parents wary of excessive screentime, there are only so many creative alleys you can lead them down.

One parental modus operandi which never fails is playtime. A new toy can occupy your tot for hours on end. Be it a new Barbie, Nerf Gun or Jellycat plushie, there are plenty of adorable playthings to delight little ones.

Amazon is home to some of the most prolific names in the toy box. Think Fisher-Price, Mattel, Hot Wheels and Uno to name a few.

And the fun doesn’t stop there. Board games are available for older children, while velvety soft toys are perfect for newborns. Nineties babies will be thrilled with irresistible offers on Polly Pocket compacts, Jenga and Tamagotchi. Who said toys were just for kids?

Delve into the world of toys and explore the best offers on kid’s toys during the Amazon Prime Big Deal Days.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is one of the biggest and best sales events around town (well, online). Each year, Amazon hosts a generous sale of its beloved products. The flagship event takes place in July, but last year we were treated to smaller seasonal sales in March and October.

When is the next Amazon Prime Day in 2024?

The official dates for Amazon’s next sale have just been announced, the Prime Big Deal Days will return on October 8 and 9. There will be deals across TVs, laptops, air fryers, BBQs, garden furniture, kitchen appliances and much, much more.

How to take part in Amazon Prime Day

Amazon’s biggest sales of the year are typically reserved for Prime membership holders only. Prime membership costs £8.99 a month, or you can pay yearly for £95, which is a tad cheaper. Amazon Student membership fees come in at £4.49 per month or £47.49 per year.

For that, you’ll get free delivery on thousands of products, and hold the key to Amazon’s huge range of benefits services and entertainment. Think Amazon Music, Prime Video, Deliveroo discounts, Amazon Grocery, picture storage, gaming, reading and more.

Sign up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime here.

What kind of deals were there last year?

Covetable Jellycats, epic Barbie DreamHouses, LEGO Hogwarts and more. You name it, Amazon discounted it.

Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Pro

If your children have graduated from Amazon’s original kids’ tablet, it’s time to upgrade them to the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro, which is designed for school-aged children from 6-12. Each tablet still comes with those colourful durable cases, but here they’ve been streamlined to give a much more adult look and feel, while still being appealing to little ones (and, most importantly, still protecting the tablet itself). While it still has the same overall look and feel as the familiar Amazon Fire HD devices, this one comes with way more bells and whistles to keep older kids interested.

The 10.1-inch display is much larger than other Amazon tablets, while our tester was particularly impressed with the 12-hour battery life, which came in particularly handy over a long-haul flight. There are plenty of controls on there to make sure children are using it safely, from the ability to make calls to approved contacts to restricted access to the internet. Like the Fire HD 8, it also comes with a two-year guarantee against accidental damage and a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+.

Barbie™ The Movie MEGA DreamHouse

There have been reports that creating Barbie’s Dreamhouse for Greta Gerwig’s movie led to a worldwide shortage of pink paint. As a result, the film’s version looks incredible, with the slide into the pool specifically requested by Robbie herself, according to reports.

This, slightly smaller but still very pink, buildable DreamHouse has no walls or doors but does include a spiral staircase, pool with a slide, kitchen, bar and bedroom. It comes at a high price but is guaranteed to bring pure joy to all Barbie fans.

This set comes with 1795 bricks and other pieces so is recommended for children aged 10 plus and younger children may need help assembling it. It’s also worth noting that this set may take up quite a bit of space in your home (dimensions are ‎55.88 x 48.26 x 26.42 cm).

Medela Harmony Flex Manual Breast Pump

  • Best for: Manual pumping
  • Type of pump: Manual, single
  • Size: 20 x 8 x 16.6cm
  • Weight:  263g

A new and improved version of the original Medela Harmony pump, the Harmony Flex manual single breast pump boasts Flex Technology - the addition of a unique soft-rimmed oval breast shield for a calm yet efficient manual pumping experience.

Sitting at a 105-degree angle and moulding to the shape and size of your breast, the flexible breast shields provide a more comfortable and secure fit and are clinically proven to produce more milk per session as a result. There is only one size included in the box (24mm) but it should fit most, with other sizes sold separately if required.

With a small number of parts for easy set-up and cleaning, the Medela Harmony Flex uses two-phase expression, where you can choose between short stimulating suction and longer expression pumps to mimic your baby’s natural feeding rhythms. You can even pump straight into the included 150ml Medela bottle - ideal for parents who are regularly incorporating expressed bottles into their feeding routine.

While it’s more energy and time-consuming than an electric pump, it offers impressive suction for a manual pump. With a compact size weighing under 300g, it’s also lightweight and portable - small enough to pop into your handbag for quiet and efficient expression on the go.

Aveeno Daily Care Barrier Nappy Cream

Best for: Soothing

Designed specifically for newborns, Aveeno’s barrier cream combines the soothing properties of colloidal oatmeal with the protective and antibacterial power of zinc oxide. Together, these ingredients form a breathable barrier that not only prevents, but also treats nappy rash.

The light texture makes it a breeze to apply and we were particularly impressed by how quickly it alleviated redness in the bottom area and kept our baby’s skin feeling comfortable throughout the night.

It also worked wonders to repair damaged skin on the knees caused by crawling.

This formula is fragrance-free and has been put through the paces by paediatricians and dermatologists, so you can trust that it is safe for delicate skin, including little ones who are prone to eczema.

The design allows pedals to be swapped for a footrest and comes with adjustable straps to secure your growing baby into the most comfortable position. A dual steering system allows parents to be in control while allowing kids to feel some independence at the same time, growing their confidence and putting them on the path to moving onto a proper pedal bike.

Durable, well made and highly portable, the trike can be stowed into airline overlead luggage bins, folding and unfolding in seconds. It comes with a handy travel bag that’s easy to zip up quickly and carry on your back – meaning you could keep your child in it right up until you board the plane.

Babymoov Hygro Plus Ultrasonic Humidifier

Best for: Variable humidity levels

Despite its slightly space-age appearance, the Babymoov Hygro Plus offers a large water tank and five different levels of mist output, ranging from a subtle haze to a more noticeable vapour. You can opt to select these manually, or thanks to the built-in hygrometer, allow the Babymoov to monitor the surroundings and adjust the humidity levels automatically. You can even rotate the spout a full 360 degrees, so you can find an angle that suits your room set-up.

With a substantial 22-hour battery life, it can easily be left to run all night with a quiet noise level that won’t disturb your baby. There’s even the option to add essential oils to use via the built-in diffuser, although this is completely optional. If for any reason the water does run low, you can have peace of mind that the unit will shut off automatically.

We love the multicoloured nightlight with a choice of seven shades including purples, blues, greens and reds. The lifetime warranty is also a welcome addition considering its relatively high price tag.

  • Tank size: 2.5 litres
  • Run time: 22 hours
  • Auto shut off: Yes
  • Dimensions: 26.8 x 24.2 x 35 cm
  • Additional features: 7 colour nightlight and Diffuser

Most parents will be familiar with the Vicks brand, particularly during the winter cold season, so it’s reassuring to know that the Vicks Sweet Dreams Humidifier is completely compatible with VapoPads with essential oils. Cubo Ai Plus Smart Baby Monitor

Best for: multitasking tech

This high-tech bird-shaped baby monitor is a great option if you’re a parent looking for a white noise machine with added extras, or to keep the number of devices in your home down to a minimum.

To initiate the audio elements, it’s a case of using the associated Cubo Ai app. There are nine different audio sounds to choose from in total, including white noise, lullabies and bird sounds. There’s also the option to set a thirty or sixty-minute timer.

Aside from the white noise aspect, the baby monitor is impressively intuitive, and can even alert you if your baby’s face has become covered while sleeping.

For a white noise gadget, it’s at the higher end of the market. But given how high-tech and innovative it is, the price feels more than justified, particularly if you’re a parent looking for a baby monitor too.

Amazon Echo Dot Kids Smart Speaker (5th Gen) with Alexa - Owl

This is a cute and interactive product that isn’t strictly a clock but it does allow you to set an alarm for the morning on it. A monthly fee (£3.99 per month) is required for the child-friendly content but if you buy it from Argos, one year of content is already included.

Children can ask Alexa homework questions, to play bedtime stories or songs, and much more. They will be able to ask her what the time is so they know when they need to get ready for bed and parental controls can be set up to limit the amount of time children can spend on it.

The Kids Dot comes as either a green owl or a purple dragon. You’ll need the Alexa app on your smartphone and a USB cable is included.

Hasbro Twister Air Party Game

  • Best: overall
  • Age suitability: 8+

The original Twister is a game that we all know and love - one that’s known to get the party started and result in fits of giggles from participants and spectators alike. The new Hasbro’s Twister Air Party, however, takes this game to a whole new level, combining physical gameplay with an augmented reality app that tracks your wrist and ankle movements on screen.

The game is really simple to set up, scanning a QR Code to download the app onto your compatible tablet or phone before mirroring it to your TV screen and completing a brief calibration exercise.

By adding the stretchy bands on your ankles and wrists, the AR app then tracks your movements, with players performing high-energy dance moves as they attempt to sync up with the correct colours presented on the screen.

Our toy testers absolutely loved the high-energy nature of this game, which really got their pulses racing as they competed against each other. While only two people can play at a time, it’s also surprisingly good fun to watch, especially those who struggle to keep up with the pace. It’s worth mentioning that you need a fair bit of floor space to really get the ankle tracking on target, but overall this is a unique and fun ‘twist’ on the original game that is sure to fill your house with laughter.

Best for: Fun for 4+ year-olds

Stripping the idea of a smartwatch for kid right back to basics, Vtech are famed for their tech for tiny ones and, indeed, many of my children’s first forays into the likes of digital photography and video have been with the assistance of kit from the Kidizoom range, so you can be quietly confident of what your £55 outlay will get you.
